Preposition- यहा पर दो शब्दों से मिलकर बना है। Pre और Position. तो pre का मतलब होता है पहले, और Position का मतलब होता है स्थान, इस प्रकार Preposition एक ऐसा सब्द होता है जो Noun या Pronoun के आगे प्रयुक्त हो और इनका सम्नंध अन्य सब्दो के साथ प्रकट करे। वो शब्द Preposition कहलाता है। यही preposition definition in Hindi है।

1. Simple Preposition सरल पूर्वसर्ग- पूर्वसर्ग जो किसी भी विधि से नहीं बनते हैं और एक भाषा के लिए सामान्य होते हैं, उन्हें सरल पूर्वसर्ग के रूप में जाना जाता है।
like- At, by, for, from, in, of, off, out, on, with, through, till, up, down, to, After, over, under, but, round, past, since, via, per, than.

2. Compound Preposition यौगिक पूर्वसर्ग- Preposition जो पूर्वसर्ग से बनते हैं, Compound preposition कहलाते हैं। like- About, across, above, along, among, beyond, beside, inside, outside, within. Without, abroad, amid, between.

- They walked along the seashore.
- वे समुद्र के किनारे चले।
- I stood beside the theatre.
- मैं थिएटर के पास खड़ा था।

3. Phrase Preposition वाक्यांश पूर्वसर्ग- शब्दो का एक ऐसा समूह जो एक preposition की तरह प्रयोग किया जाएँ। उसे Phrase preposition कहते है। जैसे- According to, along with, away from, by reason of, on behalf of, on account of etc.

- According to Shakespeare, love is not time’s fool.
- शेक्सपियर के अनुसार, प्रेम समय का मूर्ख नहीं है।

(a) जब कोई object पहले से ही stable/ Constant स्थिर हो, तो उस condition मे In preposition का प्रयोग करते है। like-

(b) बड़े-बड़े नगरों, प्रांतों और देशों के साथ मे In का प्रयोग किया जाता है।

(c) किसी का Occupation या activity को दर्शाने के लिये भी इसका प्रयोग किया जाता है।
- The gardeners are busy in watering the Plants.

(a) जब कोई वस्तु गति में होती है और वह विरामावस्था में आती है। इस स्थिति में, हम पूर्वसर्ग के रूप में Into का उपयोग करते हैं।

Use of ‘AT’ Preposition in Hindi [At का हिंदी अर्थ होता है ‘पर’]
(a) At का प्रयोग किसी निश्चित समय और Position के लिये। at preposition examples.
- Our school starts at 8 A.M.
- हमारा स्कूल सुबह 8 बजे शुरू होता है।
- He gets up at 4 A.M.
- वह सुबह 4 बजे उठता है।
- My father is at home.
- मेरे पिता घर पर हैं।
(b) At का प्रयोग गाँव, उपनगर, या कालोनी के साथ होता है। At preposition examples.

(a) जब कोई वस्तु पहले से ही Constant Position में रखी हो तो On का प्रयोग किया जाता है।

Use of ‘Upon’ preposition in Hindi [ upon का हिंदी अर्थ होता है ‘के ऊपर’]
(a) जब कोई वस्तु पहले Motion हो और बाद मे rest मे हो जाए तो इस Condition में Upon का प्रयोग होता है।
- The lion jumped upon the rock.
- The cat jumps up on the table.
Use of ‘by’ preposition in Hindi (के द्वारा)
- जब कोई काम किसी की मदद से हो तो हम by का प्रयोग करते है।

Use of ‘with’ (साथ) preposition in Hindi

Use of “Off” preposition in Hindi
(a) जब कोई भी action समाप्ति की ओर अग्रसर हो या ऊपर से नीचे की ओर हो रहा हो। तो Off का प्रयोग किया जाता है।

Use of From
(a) जब किसी वस्तु का एक स्थान से अलगाव या अलग होना प्रकट हो या किसी चीज का source बताने के लिये From का प्रयोग किया जाता है।

Use of Since
(a) Since का प्रयोग Perfect Continuous Tense मे Point of time के लिये प्रयोग होता है।

Use of For
(a) For का प्रयोग Perfect Continuous Tense मे Period of Time के लिये, किसी उदेश्य के लिये प्रयोग किया जाता है।

- The train is behind time.
- The teacher stood behind the students.
Use of Over (बहुत ऊपर)
(a) जब कोई वस्तु हमसे बहुत ऊपर हो तो हम Over का प्रयोग करते है।
- The sky is over our heads.
- The birds fly over our heads.
Use of Above (ऊपर)
(a) जब कोई वस्तु हमरे सर से कम height पर हो तो हम above का प्रयोग करते है।
- The swimmer’s head was above the water.

Use of Between (दो के बीच मे)
(a) जब किसी चीज को मध्य मे Divide किया जाए या किसी दो चीज के बीच मे अंतर बताया जाए। तो उस समय between का प्रयोग किया जाता है।
